Qeshani An Art That Tells a Story

Qeshani is not just a craft; it is an artistic heritage that embodies the splendor of Islamic architecture and reflects the aesthetics of decorative arts that have flourished through the ages. This craft traces its origins to the East, where artisans mastered the art of transforming clay into intricately decorated artworks, rich with creativity and precision.

In Damascus, Qeshani was an essential part of architectural identity, adorning the walls of homes, palaces, and mosques with its vibrant colors and harmonious patterns. Each piece tells a story, and every design captures the spirit of its place, preserving this art as a testament to a civilization rich in history and beauty.

Qeshani is a blue Damascene ceramic art that dates back to the Umayyad period. It developed throughout Islamic history and was characterized by Damascus thanks to its skilled craftsmen. It is used to decorate palaces, mosques, and ancient houses such as Al-Azm Palace, and expresses the cultural heritage of Damascus. Its secret lies in the way the dust is mixed to form its unique paste, making it a symbol of authentic Islamic art.

It is dried, painted and colored by hand, then baked at 1200°C. It originated in Damascus in the 14th century and flourished during the Mamluk, Umayyad, and Ottoman eras, and spread globally. It is distinguished by its bright colors and unique cracks that give it a special charm. Its Islamic and botanical motifs are used to make various household items such as plates, cups, and lamps, reflecting its authentic Arabic heritage and artistic value.
